Aims of the Module


This module underscores the vital importance of brand identity, brand value, and brand building in marketing. It builds on existing knowledge to enhance understanding of the strategies marketers can use to establish and strengthen their brands.

 Participants will learn to create compelling brand narratives, communicate value effectively, and drive brand equity, highlighting branding's significant impact on business success.

Assessments Methods 

The module will be assessed by way of a 2-hour examination. 

Onscreen assessments utilising either Multiple Choice Testing or Scenario-driven short and extended answer response tests. The assessment is employer-driven, practitioner-based, relevant, and appropriate for business needs.

Entry requirements 

For marketing managers and marketers working in operational and supervisory roles, who are looking to progress their strategic and management skills. Equivalent level to an undergraduate degree.

You’ll need to have a minimum of two years’ experience working in the industry at an operational level or a relevant Level 4 qualification to study the Diploma in Professional Marketing.

How can it be used?

As a stand alone certificate to demonstrate your knowledge and expertise to Level 6 in this topic.

As an elective module in your Level 6 CIM Diploma in Professional & Digital Marketing. You can take up additional modules to complete the full qualification.

Course leader

David Colley

I am a Senior Lecturer in branding and marketing communications at Manchester Metropolitan University and a tutor for nesma, delivering the CIM Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing, specifically the Managing Brands module. With a career spanning design, print, and university marketing management, I bring hands-on experience from leading marketing campaigns, managing brand strategy, and student recruitment to the classroom. Qualified with a PGCE and an MSc in Marketing, I’ve taught CIM qualifications since 2018, combining industry insights with an academic perspective. Outside of work, I have research interests in the craft beer industry and serve as a Director and Secretary of a community cinema CIC.
